2006-2018
In 2006 the Institute of Construction and Ecology was organized on the basis of the Ecological and Economic Institute of KazNTU, which was renamed as the Institute of Construction, Architecture and Ecology in 2007 and in 2008 again was renamed as the Institute of Architecture and Construction with assignation of the name of T.K. Bassenov.
The opening of the Kazakhstan-French education center for training specialists in the field of power, electric engineering and the maintenance of automated systems took place.
The company Chevron declared their cooperation with K.I. Satbayev KAZNTU, the only higher education institution from the former Soviet Union and according to Chevron, granted this distinction along with 16 leading universities of the world, such as Cambridge university, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, the Southern University of California, the University of Calgary, etc.
The visit of representatives of the Colorado Mining training school took place. The guests made a number of presentations and discussed a plan for developing cooperation with the faculty members as well.
Training in the Bachelor’s degree program in the own experimental curricula started. Training at the university was run according to the three-tier system of higher and postgraduate education (Bachelor’s degree program – Master’s degree program – PhD doctoral studies).
The academic mobility program for students, undergraduates and the academic teaching staff at the university was successfully implemented with partner higher education institutions from the USA, the EU, the CIS and Asia.
KazNTU became the only higher education institution from Kazakhstan included in the project conducted by the Thomson Reuters agency for institutional assessment of higher education institutions around the world.
K.I. Satbayev KazNTU entered the top-800 list of the best higher education institutions of the world in ranking by the British research agency QS.
The Republican State Institution “K. I. Satbayev Kazakh National Research Technical University” (KazNRTU) was restructured as a nonprofit joint–stock company (NJSC).
JSC “STC“Parasat” and the following leading research institutes such as LLP “Institute of Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology named after U. M. Akhmedsafin”, LLP “Institute of Geography”, LLP “Institute of Physics and Technology”, LLP “K.I. Satbayev Institute of Geological Sciences”, JSC “Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation” joined NJSC “K.I. Satbayev KazNRTU”. On the instructions of the Head of State, Nursultan Nazarbayev, two of the leading technical universities in the country, KBTU and KazNRTU, were merged into one. I.K. Beisembetov was appointed the Rector of the joint institution.

JSC NAC “Kazatomprom” and NJSC “K.I. Satbayev Kazakh National Research Technical University” concluded an agreement on cooperation in the fundamental and applied research in the field of atomic and alternative energy and training specialists. The International Research Educational Center for the Atomic Industry was established.
K. I. Satbayev KazNRTU broke into the top 600 best universities in the ranking list for the best universities in the world (QS World University Rankings).
Scientific projects were implemented utilizing financial resources to the sum of 421,195 thousand tenge that were mobilized for this purpose.
On September 1st, the contract for the fiduciary management of 100 percent proportion of shares of KBTU between JSC NC “KazMunayGaz” and K. I. Satbayev KazNRTU reached its end. Since then, the two universities have been developing as the independent scientific- educational institutions.
K. I. Satbayev KazNRTU undertook a rebranding procedure and changed its name to Satbayev University. A specialized Institute of digital technology for the development of artificial intelligence was created.
The university was ranked 415th place among the 800 best universities in the world in the international QS World University Ratings thus becoming one of the three best universities in Kazakhstan.
The 910,233 thousand tenge allocated for research was completely utilized on the research works related to industrial processes.
JSC STC “Parasat” was redefined as the Satbayev University Technology Commercialization Center. Its main goal is the commercialization of scientific and scientific-technical contributions of university scientists within the industrial sector by promoting innovative products to the market and identifying and analyzing technical and technological problems, as well as the needs of the real economy.
“The International Center for Field Analysis and Development” was established in collaboration with Baker Hughes and General Electric Company.
Satbayev University and JSC “ArcelorMittal Temirtau” created a joint venture “Satbayev University & ArcelorMittal Temirtau Gas Production” (LLP “SUAMGas”) to implement a project for exploration and production of coal methane in the Karaganda region.
SU sustained the growth of commercialized projects and concluded 202 business contracts worth 1,080,485 thousand tenge with industry leaders of economy.
SU broke into the top 100 (settling at rank 50) best universities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia according to the rankings published by Quacquarelli Simonds (QS) universities.
In the period from 2016 to 2018, SU was ranked between 411 and 420 among the 800 top universities in the world. This marked an extraordinary increase of more than 100 places over the previous year and the university was awarded the first place in the nominations “Leader in Reputational Rating experts” and “Leader in the reputational assessment of employers” by the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education.
