Giant yurt-carts
Giant four-wheeled carts associated with large Kuime yurts, became widespread at that time. According to the 13th-century traveler William Rubbrook, such carts were: "a yurt of 30 feet (9 meters) in diameter, standing atop of a cart with 20 feet (6 meters) between the wheels. It was drawn by a total of 22 oxen in two rows, with 11 oxen in each row." Whole tribes traveled long distances in such giant carts without ever getting off the wheels. These "nomadic cities" with many richly decorated kuimes moved gracefully across the Steppe. It took place during the peace time "when the sparrow laid eggs on the sheep’s backs."
