First Towns

The first towns

The first towns in Kazakhstan were located on the banks of the Ural River. They differed from the previous simple settlements by having a complex architecture and plan, a high stone or earthen walled fortifications, with houses located in circular sector layout (similar to pie slices) and an open common area in the center. Their overall plan was circular or oval in shape. The population of these towns was between 1,000-5,000 people.
