New Cities and Towns
The first urban settlements appeared in the region of Kazakhstan since the Bronze Age. Different ancient states have built cities and towns in the areas of Syrdarya, Zhetysu, Caspian Sea, Ural River, and other regions of Great Steppe for thousands of years. But in the 20th century, the process of urbanization reached a new level in Kazakhstan. At that time, dozens of new cities and hundreds of towns were built in Kazakhstan. Many of them were located in connection with production facilities: mining, chemical, Space exploration, energy, engineering, nuclear, processing, production, and etc. Higher educational, scientific and cultural centers were built in the largest cities.
