Long Cavalry Swords

Long Cavalry Swords

The invention of long cavalry swords was a major improvement of military capabilities of the Saka warriors. These straight, two-edged weapons made revolution in warfare. After first appearing in the Great Steppe in the early Iron Age, they then served as prototype of the European knightly swords some 1,5 thousand years later. Initially, long swords were only an attribute of the wealthiest Saka: royalty, generals, and knights. Later, with the improvement and wider spread of the iron technology they became more available for general nomadic population.
