The Golden Men and Golden Horses

The Golden Men and Golden Horses

In the Early Iron Age, among the nomadic peoples of the Great Steppe, there was a burial tradition of the Golden Men and Horses. Intricate and beautiful items of gold, weapons, horse harnesses, jewelry, and ornaments found in obas (or kurgans) are among the most valuable examples of the material culture in the world. The famous Esik Golden Man, found in 1970, was the first such finding. After that, many other "golden men and women" and "golden horses" were excavated, such as the Sarmatian Chieftan of Araltobe, the King of Berel, the Princess of Miyaly, the Chieftan of Taskopa, the Urjar Priestess, the golden men of Taldy-2 and Eleke-Sazy, and etc.
